Safe Sisters programme: call for applications

Safe Sisters is a fellowship programme under DefendDefenders aiming to build women’s capacity in digital security practices. The fellowship is targeted at Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) and female journalists, media workers, and activists.

Viruses, loss of important files, hacking or account hijacking are all common digital emergencies. Additionally, WHRDs are at particular risk for cyber-harassment and bullying online. East Africa needs a league of women technologists working within civil society who can dispense appropriate advice and support for people facing these high-tech challenges. Therefore, we are pleased to open our fourth round of the programme Safe Sister: The East African Women’s Digital Safety Fellowship. Through a combination of self-study, tool practice, mentorship, workshops, peer sharing, and small grants, this cohort of technologists will join forces to take on today’s digital challenges of women human rights defenders

We welcome applications from women from Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Burundi until 28 February 2021. All costs of participating will be covered by DefendDefenders. The successful candidates will have an opportunity to bid for small grants later in the programme.
