On 5th July East and Horn of Africa Human Rights Defenders Project and Front Line Submitted a report on Rwanda for the 10th Session of the UPR. The report highlighted the limited space of independent human rights activism in the country, stigmatization and intimidation of independent journalists and the use of genocide – related charges against human rights defenders.r

In a joint letter released ahead of the UN Human
Since August 2024, and under the leadership of Hassan Shire, Executive Director of DefendDefenders and Chairperson of AfricanDefenders, two missions have been deployed to Somalia to evaluate the current landscape for human rights defenders (HRDs), 10 years after the launch of the report titled Between the Rock and the Hard Place.
Today, we join the rest of the world in commemorating World Press Freedom Day 2025 under the theme “Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”
