EHAHRDP together with its partners: FIDH, CIVICUS, ISHR and ARTICLE 19, will be hosting a side event today, 13th March 2015 at 12.30pm in room 24, Palais des Nations, Geneva to discuss what measures can be taken to ensure greater participation of civil society groups and human rights defenders to achieve transparent and representative elections in Africa.

“I have been working as a doctor and a human rights defender (HRD) for over 10 years. During this time, I have witnessed the many violations that doctors and health workers, in particular, are subjected to in my native Sudan.
A relatively short session due to the UN’s liquidity crisis, the Human Rights Council’s (HRC) 59th session (HRC59) took place from 16 June to 8 July 2025. Three session days were cut, a number of debates could not be held, and a number of reports could not be delivered by the UN’s Human Rights Office (OHCHR). This is a regrettable situation.
