The report details the tactics used by the Sudanese, Ethiopian, Burundian and Ugandan governments to limit the operating environment for civil society in advance of elections.
This event will feature prominent human rights defenders from Burundi, Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda who will discuss the deteriorating space for civil society actors during elections and address the ways in which the Human Rights Council can take urgent action to fulfill its mandate.

In light of the visible trend of shrinking space for civil society and the persistent targeting of human rights defenders and their work, the ACHPR created the Study Group on Freedom of Association and Assembly, whose report was presented during its 58th Ordinary Session.
